Oilers finish road trip in B.C.

Edmonton Oilers vs Vancouver Canucks 0-3 (0-2, 0-0, 0-1)

The Canucks were 4-1-0 coming into this game, holding the lead in the Northwest Division. Jonas Hiller started his first ever game for the Oilers. The first period was one of waves of rushes going back and forth, riddled with the ripples of turnovers and miscommunication. Steve Bernier was the first to take advantage, scoring after Gilbert had given the puck away. Henrik Sedin, naturally assisted by his twin, scored on the power play five minutes before the intermission, putting the Oilers in their all so familiar hole early on.

The second started with injuries to O'Sullivan and Hiller, just seconds apart, and Khabibulin had to step in. Edmonton could not have attributed it to Luongo's qualities, because every spectator witnessed shot after shot going wide for the Oilers marksmen. It was more machine gun than sniper in any case. There was no saviour from failure, and just before full time ancient man Adam Foote took the liberty to thoroughly sink the Oilers with a broadside from the point.

Post-game: No clear cut disaster from the Oilers, but nevertheless a deflating result. There were chances, not just outside ones either, but sheer incompetency was the hallmark of every Oiler on this night. Defensively, it was a grind, having to deal with constant rushes, but overall a steady effort from all d-pairs, regardless of three goals against.
