Edmonton Oilers News (July 8th 2010) "Pat Quinn retires as head coach!"
In a shocking announcement, head coach Pat Quinn has informed that he is forced to withdraw from hockey life due to a health complication. Just days after GM Kowalski re-affirmed the status of the Oilers staff, Quinn steps down from his position and leaves a void at the helm of the club. "We are sorry that Pat had to retire, and wish him all the best in doing so" said Kowalski, before assuring the press and fans that he was already inquiring potential candidates for the head coach position. Currently unemployed head coaches include Wayne Gretzky, Dan Bylsma, Ted Nolan and Guy Carbonneau.

Edmonton Oilers News (July 8th 2010) "Oilers sign Grebeshkov"
The Edmonton Oilers have announced that they have signed defenseman Denis Grebeshkov to a 3 year deal at 2.5M per season. Grebeshkov amassed 27 points over 82 games last season, including 11 goals. After having started on the 2nd pairing Grebeshkov found himself playing top minutes when Sheldon Souray was dealt to the Anaheim Ducks. The signing means that the Oilers currently sit at 48,5M committed in salaries this season.
Rumour Mill
Several sources report that the Oilers are looking at a veteran centreman to fill the gap on the third line this season, Jeff Halpern, Manny Malhotra and Dave Scatchard being names that fit the bill.
The Oilers appear to be close to bringing in a new goalie coach, Moose Jaw coach David Marcoux is believed to be the target.
It appears that prospect Linus Omark was again passed over by the Oilers, who will have to wait until 2011 to bring him over to North America if they intend to sign him at all.
