Oilers wrap up road trip in Denver

Edmonton Oilers vs Colorado Avalanche 1-3 (0-1, 1-0, 0-2)

Edmonton changed nothing but goalies for this one, facing off against Colorado that held a 6-8-2 record in front of this matchup. Dustin Penner remained injured, but was closing in on match fitness, and was listed as day-to-day.

The first was tightly contested, with both teams playing somewhat conservative, yet not exactly mistake-free hockey. Following a broken play, Chris Kunitz found the back of the net, sending the Avs in the lead after 14 minutes of the period. The Oilers had been given 3 power plays, though none were converted.

A burst of speed sent Moore clear of the defense just a minute into the second and he was able to level the score with a nice raised shot on Budaj. The teams reverted quickly into their trench warfare style, shelling the opponent but never taking advantage of the firepower.

There was no news from the west front as the teams took to the ice in the third. That was until 5 minutes remained, when Radivojevic capitalized on a turnover, stormed ahead and scored a soft goal on Khabibulin. A goal that was repeated in all but name, when Svatos picked up another missed pass and put the game away in favour of the home team late on.

Post game : There was little between the teams, but the Oilers made mistakes that could not go unpunished, and thus got what they deserved - some would say.
