Edmonton's Future Outlook
"We're still very much rebuilding, as such, and will not veer from that course just because we're doing quite well right now" said a sagacious GM Morgan Kowalski at a press conference earlier today. He emphasised the long term commitment to renewing the prospect pool, exhaustive scouting throughout the hockey world and to forming a solid foundation for the future.
When asked of the pending free agents on his roster Kowalski replied that he was expecting to start renegotiations within the next month-and-a-half, giving himself time to both assess the future, the talent available and still have good time should negotiations draw out.
Among the most prominent free agents are the likes of Brooks Laich (RFA), Patrick O'Sullivan (RFA), Ladislav Smid (RFA) and Ethan Moreau (UFA). Others include Matt Lashoff (RFA), Anton Axelsson (RFA) and Ryan Stone (RFA). Currently residing in Springfield are other RFAs, Taylor Chorney, Jeff Deslauriers, Ryan O'Marra, Theo Peckham, among others. The Oilers have in excess of 10M in cap space, so they should be able to re-sign whomever they desire without much restriction.
